The left navigation menu isn’t fixed. In Customize mode, you can reorder its items or nest one under another, so the menu reflects how your organization works instead of the order the items shipped in.

Reorder or nest an item

  1. Go to the home screen and click Customize. Every item gets a drag handle (the six-dot icon) on its right.

  2. Drag an item’s handle and drop it on another item. Drop position decides the result:

    Drop positionResult
Top edge of an itemThe dragged item lands above it, as a sibling
Middle of an itemThe dragged item becomes a child of it
Bottom edge of an itemThe dragged item lands below it, as a sibling

A parent item gets an expand arrow; click it to show or hide its children. You can also reorder the focused item with the Arrow Up and Arrow Down keys; nesting is mouse-only.

Customize mode also covers the home screen layout and the Space order, so one save applies everything you changed.

Notes:

  • Moving an item takes its own children with it.
  • You can’t drop an item onto itself or onto one of its own children.
  • Hovering over a collapsed item opens it after a moment, so you can drop into it.
  • Home can’t be moved and can’t become a parent.
  • Nesting isn’t available while a search filter is active in the menu.

Save, publish, and review the layout

  1. Click Save.
  2. Optionally, under Applies to, choose an audience to publish the layout to other people. See Published layouts for the full publishing flow.

Publishing to Everyone does more than change the menu: it becomes the platform’s real page structure, so a dashboard published under another dashboard also moves on the Dashboards page.

Go to My customizations to see which layout each part of the app uses and switch between the layouts available to you. Navigation nesting and Navigation order are listed as separate blocks there, so you can follow a published nesting while keeping your own order.

Limitations

  • A person who doesn’t have access to a page doesn’t see it nested under its parent; it stays at the top level of their menu instead. The page never disappears.
  • The collapsed (icon-only) navigation rail doesn’t show nesting. Every page keeps its own top-level icon there.
