Dawiso offers two ways to introduce new users to the platform: the onboarding checklist, which tracks first-step tasks in the top navigation bar, and onboarding hints, which call out individual interface elements the first time you encounter them.

Onboarding checklist

The onboarding checklist guides a new user through the first steps in Dawiso, such as connecting a data source, assigning owners, and inviting colleagues. It tracks which steps you have finished and shows your progress in the top navbar.

Complete the checklist tasks

In the top navbar, click the button to open the checklist panel.

The checklist panel lists the tasks that introduce the core parts of Dawiso. Each task has a name, a short description. When a walkthrough is available, click Show me how to start the related guided tour.

Tip

The panel header shows your progress in the form “3 of 10 done”. Tasks marked as optional don’t have to be completed.

By default, the checklist covers:

  • Connect a data source, which consists of three steps: Create a connection, Create a data source, and Run the ingestion
    • The group appears as a single row with its own “X of Y” count and expands automatically when one of its steps is next. Each step also counts on its own toward the panel’s overall progress count, so completing the group requires finishing all three steps.
  • Search for your first asset
  • Assign owners
  • Set up classifications
  • Create glossary terms
  • Invite colleagues
  • View lineage
  • Ask AI
  • Contribute knowledge
  • Request access

When every task is done, the panel replaces the list with a completion message.

Tip

A task is marked as done automatically once you perform the matching action anywhere in Dawiso. The panel repeats this note next to the task list. For Run the ingestion, this happens the moment the ingestion job finishes — whether it succeeds or fails — without refreshing the page or reopening the panel.

Minimize or dismiss the checklist

The checklist panel can be minimized or dismissed:

  • Minimize keeps the checklist available and collapses the panel.
  • Dismiss closes the checklist. A toast appears with an Undo action, so an accidental dismissal can be reverted immediately.

To bring a dismissed checklist back, open the help menu (the ? button in the top-right corner) and use the entry that reopens the onboarding checklist.

Your checklist state — whether it’s minimized or dismissed, and the persona you selected during onboarding — is stored against your user account on the server. The same state applies when you log in from another browser or device.

Tip

Administrators can turn off parts of onboarding for the whole instance, and chain a guided tour to an onboarding task. For more information, see Configuration.

Onboarding hints

An onboarding hint points out a single element of the Dawiso interface. The hint appears as a small pulsing green dot, called an indicator, next to the element it describes. Hints are aimed at users who are seeing a part of the platform for the first time.

Open and dismiss a hint

An indicator marks the element the hint describes. Click the indicator to open a short tooltip that explains what the element does.

The tooltip has one or two buttons:

  • Got it: closes the tooltip and dismisses the hint.
  • Show me how: starts the guided tour linked to the hint, on the page you are currently on. Appears only when the hint has a linked tour.

Neither the indicator nor the tooltip blocks the page: there is no backdrop, and you can keep working while a hint is on screen.

Hint frequency

Dawiso shows at most one hint per browser tab session. Hints don’t stack: a new hint never interrupts one already on screen.

No hint appears in these situations:

  • A guided tour is playing.
  • The first-login welcome screen is open.
Warning

A hint is marked as seen the moment its indicator appears, not when you click it. Each user sees a given hint once, across all sessions and devices.

Hint text translation

Hint text is stored per language. Dawiso shows the text matching your interface language, falling back to English if your language has none.

A hint with neither is skipped without being marked as seen, so it appears once its text is added.

Enable hints

Hints are disabled by default and can by enabled by administrators.

Hint content itself doesn’t ship with the platform. Which element a hint marks, its text, and the tour it links to are all delivered in an installed data package.
