WYSIWYG HTML editor

The text editor component allows users to create and edit content, offering a “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG) interface that mirrors the final product’s appearance.

This component is available for the following attributes: definition, description, summary, calculation.

Display large content

A rich text value over the render limit doesn’t render automatically when you open the object. Instead, you see a message and a Show content button. Click it to render the full value: it’s never deleted or truncated, and stays fully editable. The limit is 250,000 characters by default.

Size is measured on the rendered content, not on the value you typed: every embedded text it resolves counts towards it, so even a one-line value can stop rendering automatically if it embeds a long one. The same measurement decides the higher ceilings where the reveal button disappears.

Pasting from Microsoft Word is the usual cause of content reaching this size, since Word wraps every word and space in extra formatting markup.

Large content in other elements

The render limit isn’t unique to the attribute panel. It applies wherever a large value would otherwise render, and each element also withdraws its reveal button at its own, higher ceiling:

• Activities tab: the threshold covers the previous and new value combined, so Dawiso can fall back even when each version is individually small but their combined comparison isn’t, which happens when a long value’s been reworded throughout.
  • Below 1,000,000 characters, you get a note, a preview, and a Show change button.
  • Above 1,000,000 characters, only the note and preview remain. Open the object to read the value.
• Table and grid cells: no button available at any size. A value over the limit shows as a shortened plain-text preview with no way to expand it. Open the object to read it in full.

What the shortened preview shows

All three surfaces fall back to the same shortened preview: the value’s readable text, with formatting stripped. A value pasted from Word previews its opening sentences, not the style rules Word stores ahead of them. An embedded text previews the name of the object it points to.

Some values have no text to preview at all, such as one holding only an image. The preview line then reads No text could be previewed from this value.

Change the render limit

Administrators can raise, lower, or remove the render limit for the whole instance.

1. Go to Settings > General > Features > Content rendering.
2. Enter a new value in Rich-text render limit (characters).
3. Click Save.

Set the limit to 0 to switch it off, so content always renders in full no matter how large it is. Only do this when your instance deliberately holds very large values, for example a landing page authored as a single rich text attribute, since every reader then pays the rendering time on every page load.

Edit text

To enter the text editing mode, click the text field.

In the editing mode, you will gain access to a toolbar positioned at the top of the editor. Each icon represents one functionality, for more information on each functionality, hover over the icon.

Open the HTML editor

For advanced users familiar with HTML, you can enter the HTML text editor directly to use HTML markup for more intricate formatting and customization.

Click the source code icon (right side of the toolbar’s last row) to open the HTML editor.

Text editor functionalities

The text editor allows you to:

• Format text
• Create tables
• Embed hyperlinks, images, and multimedia
• Embed other attribute values
• Add attachments
• Generate in-text table of contents
• Add code snippets
• Insert diagrams
• Use the AI writer

In-text table of contents

If you use different level headings in your text, you can generate a table of contents (TOC) with hyperlinks linking to your sections. Click the Table of contents icon to insert an automatically generated TOC.

You can edit the TOC name in the editor, or hyperlinks in the source code (click the source code icon on the right of the toolbar’s last row).

Add code snippets

Include code snippets and scripts in your text. The syntax will be highlighted based on the language that you select.

1. Click the Insert/edit code sample icon.
2. Select your language.
3. Insert your code.

Insert diagrams

In addition to standard editing features, Dawiso allows users to create custom diagrams. Click the Insert diagram icon to open a diagram creator. You can use this tool for:

• Flowcharts and process mapping: Illustrate workflows, decision trees, and project timelines to streamline processes.
• Organizational charts: Visualize hierarchical structures and reporting relationships within businesses.
• Mind mapping and brainstorming: Facilitate creativity and problem-solving by visually organizing ideas and concepts.
• Network diagrams: Plan, troubleshoot, and optimize IT infrastructure and network connections.
• UML diagrams: Aid software design, architecture, and documentation through various Unified Modeling Language diagrams.
• Inserting mathematical formulas: Include mathematical equations and formulas directly into documents for academic, technical, or scientific purposes.

Help me write

The Dawiso text editor includes an AI writer that generates written content automatically.

Click the Dawiso AI icon for:

• Text editing and revision
• Content summarization
• Content expansion (generate additional paragraphs, sections, or insights to enrich the content)
• Translation
• Content ideation based on specified keywords or themes

Add images

Images can be added using the following methods:

• Use the Insert Image button to select and insert one or more files from your local folders
• Drag-and-drop images from your local folders
• Copy paste an image from browser

Add object links

Add links to other objects or its heading by:

• Copy pasting a link directly into the editor
• Using the / shortcut and select Object link
• Insert/edit link button

This button can also edit links inserted using the previous two methods.

Inserting an object link (or a link to its sections) automatically creates a new relation between the two objects. When you delete an object, Dawiso shows all its related objects to prevent broken links.
