The Dawiso homepage uses a free-canvas grid layout. Built-in content blocks and widgets you add from the widget catalog sit at positions and sizes you choose, so you can arrange the homepage to match how your team works.

Homepage layout

The homepage grid has 24 columns. Content blocks and widgets occupy freely chosen positions and sizes within the grid, instead of a fixed template.

Built-in content blocks include:

  • Spaces
  • Apps
  • Notifications
  • Recent
  • Favorites & Watching
  • Popular
  • Your scope
  • Setup & adoption (shown only for some users)

Widgets you add from the widget catalog sit alongside these blocks on the same grid.

Each built-in content block can sit on the homepage only once. Widgets from the catalog have no such limit: add as many copies of one as you need.

Favorites & Watching empty states

The Favorites & Watching block lists objects you starred or are watching. See Notifications for how favoriting and watching work.

When you have no favorites or nothing watched, the block stays on the homepage.

When the block can’t load its data, the Favorites and Watching panels replace their content with Could not be loaded and Reload the page to try again.

Customize mode

Click Customize to enter edit mode. Customize mode is available on wide screens only. On tablet and phone, the homepage layout is read-only and derived automatically from the wide-screen layout.

Save, discard, or reset changes

Changes you make in Customize mode form a draft until you save them.

  • Click Save to apply your changes.
  • Click Discard to revert your unsaved changes back to the last saved layout.
  • Click Reset to restore the default homepage layout.
Tip

Administrators can also publish their layout to other users instead of keeping it as a personal layout.

Manage widgets

In Customize mode, add, move, and configure widgets and content blocks on the grid.

Tip

The widgets available in the widget catalog, and their default and minimum sizes, come from the Marketplace packages installed on your Dawiso instance.

Add a widget

Click Add widget to open the widget catalog. Widgets range from platform-wide counters, such as Total objects and Total users, to per-user views like My objects count and Watched objects, static content such as Static text and Static heading, and feature-specific widgets like Broken external links.

Tip

Some widgets surface data from a separate feature and stay empty until that feature is set up. For example, the Broken external links widget stays empty until an Incremental run of the External link checker completes. Its safe first Recheck run finds nothing on an unscanned instance, by design.

Where a new widget lands depends on what you selected first:

  • A tile is selected: The widget is added at that tile.
  • Nothing is selected: The widget fills the first empty gap tall enough for it. If there is no such gap, the widget goes below everything else on the grid.

Adding several widgets without closing the catalog places each one immediately after the previous one.

When a built-in content block is already on the grid, its card in the catalog shows a minus icon in place of the add icon. Click it to take the block off your homepage: a confirmation message names the block you removed.

Insert or remove a row

  1. Hover over the gap between two rows. A plus icon appears across the grid, at any point where no block or widget spans that line.
  2. Click the plus icon to insert an empty row at that position. Every block and widget below it shifts down.

Upon save, Dawiso provides an overview of empty rows for you to:

  • Remove them and pull the blocks and widgets up to close the gaps
  • Keep them in the layout

Dismissing the dialog without choosing either option also saves the layout as it stands.

Only a row that is empty across its full width counts as an empty row. A gap beside a taller widget doesn’t count: the taller widget still occupies that row, so removing the bottom-most widget never leaves an empty row behind.

Tip

A gap left by a block or widget that’s hidden for you — for example the Setup & adoption block, which only some users see — isn’t counted as an empty row.

Move and resize a widget

Drag a block or widget to move it to a new position on the grid. Resize a block or widget by dragging its edge or corner handles. Blocks resize vertically only.

While you drag a block or widget, other blocks and widgets in its path slide out of the way to preview the new layout live. They return to their original position if you move the dragged item elsewhere. Release it, and the layout matches exactly what the preview showed.

Select a widget

Click a widget to select it. A floating toolbar appears with Configure, Duplicate, and Remove. When there’s no room above the widget, such as in the first row under the page header, the toolbar appears inside the widget’s top edge instead.

Configure is offered only for widgets that have an editable title or editable filters. Number cards such as Adoption totals and Business assets have neither, so their toolbar shows Duplicate and Remove only.

Duplicate isn’t offered for built-in content blocks. A block’s toolbar shows Remove only.

Configure a widget

Click Configure on a selected widget to open its configuration dialog. Every widget has:

  • A Title field, shown as the widget’s header.
  • Widget-specific options, such as filters, a time range, or table columns.

Clicking outside the dialog or pressing Esc with unsaved edits opens a Save changes? dialog offering Save, Discard, and Cancel. The dialog appears only when you changed something.

Static text widget options

Static text widgets have the following configuration options:

OptionDescription
TextRich-text field containing the widget’s content.
TitleOptional panel header. Leave it empty to display the text as a clean card without a header.

Static text always renders inside a panel. For a floating heading with no panel around it, add a Section title widget from the catalog instead.

Duplicate or remove a widget

  • Duplicate places a copy directly below the selected widget, pushing anything underneath it down.
  • Remove deletes the selected widget from the grid.

Keyboard shortcuts

With a widget selected, use the following keyboard shortcuts:

KeyAction
Arrow keysMove the selected widget.
Shift + arrow keysResize the selected widget.
DeleteRemove the selected widget.
Enter or SpaceSelect the focused widget.
EscDeselect the widget.

Copy and paste a widget

Press Ctrl/Cmd + C to copy a selected widget, then Ctrl/Cmd + V to paste a copy of it onto the grid. Where the copy lands depends on the mouse pointer:

  • Pointer over an empty cell: The copy’s top-left corner lands on that cell. If the copy would overflow the grid, it moves left to fit.
  • Pointer over a widget: The copy takes that widget’s place. The widget and everything below it move down.
  • Pointer outside the grid, or keyboard only: With a cell selected, the copy is pasted into that cell. Otherwise, the copy is pasted directly below the copied widget, or below where that widget stood if you have since deleted it.

Pasting still works after you delete the original widget.

Built-in content blocks can’t be copied. Pressing Ctrl/Cmd + C on one copies nothing and shows the message This widget can only be on your dashboard once.

Number widget bands

A number widget displays a single numeric value, such as a total count. Two or more number widgets band together when they sit in the same row, touch with no gap, and share the same height. Banded widgets render as one continuous strip with a single shared border, and only the outer edges of the band are rounded. A chart, table, or any other widget type placed between two number widgets breaks the band.

The band is a visual effect only. Widget positions and sizes stay unchanged, and each widget keeps its own floating toolbar and configuration dialog, independent of its neighbors.

To separate a widget from its band, move it to a different cell or resize it to a different height. The band breaks automatically. There’s no control to detach a widget, and no group to undo. Move the widget back into place to reform the band.

Select a widget inside a band

In Customize mode, clicking a widget that’s part of a band pops it out. The widget renders as a standalone card while selected, making clear which one you’re editing. Neighboring widgets keep their position and stay part of the band.
