A layout is how a surface — the home page, left menu, or Space list — is arranged: which widgets appear where, or in what order items are listed. Administrators can publish layouts as presets other users can select.

Publish a layout

  1. Open the screen you want to arrange — the home page, or any screen showing the left menu and Explorer.

  2. Select Customize and arrange the surface as you want your users to see it.

  3. Save and select who the layout Applies to:

    • Just me: Keeps your personal layout. Nothing is published.
    • Everyone: Publishes to every user in the workspace. The option shows the total user count.
    • Selected roles and groups: Publishes to one or more license roles, user groups, or both.
    Warning

Switching to Just me or Everyone clears any roles and groups you already picked.

  4. For Selected roles and groups, build the audience:

    • Check any number of roles under License roles. Each one shows how many users it reaches.
    • Click the Groups field to open a searchable list, then select any number of groups.
    Tip

Roles and groups combine into one audience — a user in both a picked role and picked group only receives the layout once. Save stays disabled until you pick at least one role or group.

  5. If you have your own layout on a surface you are publishing to, optionally check Also drop my own layout so the published one applies to me — otherwise it stays. The checkbox has no effect on a Just me save, since nothing is published.

  6. Check the reach summary at the bottom of the dialog before saving — for Selected roles and groups, the figure shown is an upper bound, not a headcount, since roles and groups can overlap.

  7. Optionally add a note describing the change. The note is shown in the layout’s history, so use it to record why you published this version.

  8. Select Save to confirm.

Dawiso publishes everything you picked in a single action: either every selected role and group receives the layout, or, if the save fails, none of them do.

Save and Discard are available on the home page only, even though you can rearrange the left menu and the Space order from anywhere.

Publishing to an audience you have already published to doesn’t overwrite the previous layout: it adds a new version. Nothing is lost.

Review what you have published

Go to Settings > Published layouts for the list of every layout published on the platform, grouped by surface. Each row shows the audience, the current version number, how many users it applies to, the note, and when it was published.

For each publication you can:

  • Preview: See the layout applied to the live screen, without changing what your users see. Previewing is read-only. The preview banner also offers Use this, which applies the previewed layout and closes the preview on the page you are on. It isn’t offered when that publication is already the one you use.
  • Use this: Apply the publication to your own account, including one published to an audience you aren’t in. The row carries a Used by you badge while it’s the publication applied to you.
  • History: List every version of that publication, newest first.
  • Withdraw: Stop applying the layout. Not offered for a navigation order or Space order published to everyone, because that order is the platform-wide order — see Revert an order published to everyone.

For the same reason, Use this isn’t offered for a navigation order, navigation nesting, or Space order published to everyone, neither on the row nor in the preview banner. Every user already sees that order, so it isn’t a level you can pick.

Restore an earlier version

Open History on a publication and select Restore on the version you want. Dawiso republishes a copy of that version as the newest one.

Every version offers Preview next to Restore, so you can look at a layout before you republish it. Preview opens that exact version and the preview banner names the version number you are looking at. Leaving the preview returns you to Published layouts. The newest version is marked with an In use badge.

Restoring never deletes anything. The version you restored from stays in the history, and the restore itself is added as a new version, so the full trail is preserved.

Withdraw a publication

Select Withdraw to stop applying a layout. Users on it fall through to the next level that applies to them — another publication, or the platform default.

The publication and its history are kept, and the row stays in the list marked as withdrawn.

Revert an order published to everyone

For the navigation order and Space order, publishing to everyone is the platform-wide order — there’s no separate default underneath it, so Withdraw isn’t offered. To revert it, publish a new order to everyone, or restore an earlier version from History.

The homepage layout differs: publishing to everyone still leaves the platform default underneath, so it can be withdrawn like any other publication.

Layout selection logic

When a user is reached by more than one published layout — for example one published to everyone and one to their group — Dawiso applies the most specific one, using this order of precedence:

Layout typeDescription
Group layoutLayout published to a user group the user belongs to.
Role layoutLayout published to the user’s license role.
Layout for everyoneLayout published to all users.
Platform defaultNo published layout available, so Dawiso uses its built-in arrangement.

For the navigation order and the Space order, the last two rows are one and the same level — see Revert an order published to everyone. For the homepage layout the two levels stay distinct.

Warning
  • Publishing never overrides a user’s own layout. Users who have arranged a surface themselves keep what they arranged. The precedence above decides between published layouts only.
  • A user can opt out of the automatic choice. From My customizations, users can select any layout available to them and stay on it even after you publish a layout at a higher priority level. A layout they selected that way also takes precedence over a layout they arranged themselves.
