A data package carries operational content between Dawiso environments. Until now a tour built on one environment had to be re-created by hand on every other one, because everything in a tour is keyed by IDs that only mean something in the environment it was built in. A data package resolves those references by name instead, so the same tour can be installed anywhere.

Data packages sit alongside the regular and automation package types and follow the same lifecycle: a draft version is created, validated, and then installed.

Tip

Currently available for product tours export.

Export tours into a data package

  1. Navigate to Settings > Configuration > Tours.

  2. Click Export to package.

  3. Fill in the export form:

    FieldRequiredNotes
Package keyYesThe package’s stable identifier, for example acme_onboarding_tours. It must be unique across the environment.
NameYesThe display name shown in package lists.
    ProviderNoWho publishes the package.
ToursYesOne or more tours to include. Every step, its text in each language, and its images travel with the package.
  4. Click Export.

Dawiso creates a draft package version containing the selected tours.

Why an export fails

Dawiso validates the whole export before it creates the package version. When a check fails, nothing is written and no partial package is left behind. The form stays open and states the reason, naming the package, tour, step, or image involved. Correct the input and click Export again.

ReasonWhat to do
No tour is selected.Select at least one tour.
The package key already belongs to a package of another type.Export the tours under a different package key.
A tour image could not be downloaded from the File service.Export again once the File service is available, or replace the image in the step.
A tour image is empty on the File service.Replace the image in the step and export again.
A step uses an image that was uploaded to a different tour.Upload the image in the tour that uses it and export again.
A step links an image that was deleted, or that belongs to a tour you did not select.Remove the image link from the step, or upload the image in the tour that uses it.
Warning

A tour image can only be used by the tour it was uploaded to. A step that links an image from another tour blocks the export, even when you select both tours.

Manage data packages

Settings > Packages > Data packages lists the data packages in the environment, with their key, name, provider, description, and who last changed them. Only data packages appear here — regular and automation packages stay on the Resources page.

From the row actions you can:

  • Version history — open the package detail, where versions are listed and can be validated, installed, or downloaded, exactly as for other package types.
  • Delete — remove the package. Deleting takes the package’s versions, and the tours they carry, out of this environment; tours already installed from the package stay in place. You are asked to retype the package name to confirm.

Selecting a package key opens the same package detail page used by every other package type.

Install a data package elsewhere

A downloaded data package is installed on the target environment the same way as any other package. On install, Dawiso matches the tour’s references — the page the tour is anchored to, the page elements each step points at, the roles the tour is offered to, and the language of each step’s text — by name rather than by ID, and re-uploads the step images. Installing the same package again updates the existing tours rather than duplicating them, so user progress through a tour is preserved.
